Professionals:
If you would like to share your professional knowledge or skills with the people who do not have affordable access to such knowledge and skills, please let us know of your specialty. Professional knowledge and skills include, but not limited to, fields of arts, music, health, accounting, law, education, counseling, and much more. Lectures or workshops can be scheduled as a one-time event, or on-going regular classes.
Tutors:
We are seeking bilingual or English-speaking volunteers who enjoy being around people and helping people learn how to cope with the everyday life in the US. Teaching can be anything from having a simple conversation in English with an elderly to teaching EL/Civics to people who are preparing for their citizenship test. We are constantly looking for volunteer tutors who could lead small groups to teach ESL, civics, citizenship preparatory, and computer classes. Classes can be offered during daytime or evening time.
Interpreters:
If you would like to help out limited-English Speaking Koreans, but can not commit yourself to volunteer on a regular bases, this may be a right volunteer opportunity for you. Interpreters are needed at Social Security Administration, DHS Offices, hospitals, subsidized senior housings, immigration service centers, etc. After initial trainings with HFA Staff, you will be scheduled with a time that works good for both of you and the client.
Advocates:
Unless we speak up, our voice cannot be heard. Advocates are the ones who do what money can¡¯t do by communicating with the decision-makers and policy leaders, and by outreaching the community. Volunteers are needed for rallies, outreach activities, and other advocacy activities to show our voices as immigrants.
Office Assistant:
You will be assisting HFA administrative staff with filing, data entry, printing, copying, making flyers and brochures, etc. Hours can be flexible.
Special Event Supporters:
HFA holds many small and big special events through out the year. One of the biggest events is called Korean Seniors¡¯ Day Festival, which provides over 700 Korean seniors an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our seniors¡¯ dedication to their families and communities. HFA also holds special holiday luncheons such as New Year¡¯s Day luncheon, Christmas luncheon, Korean Thanksgiving Day luncheon, etc. If you would like to sponsor, volunteer, or donate in-kind items for these special events, please contact out offices for details.
