Aerobics & Stretching

Aerobics & Stretching is an aerobic exercise program designed to effectively prevent cardiovascular diseases. This class combines dynamic aerobics with gentle stretching to improve overall cardiovascular health. Join us to boost your fitness, enhance flexibility, and promote heart health.

Community Wellness

Hanul provides an array of programs aimed at enhancing the physical and mental well-being of the Korean American community in the Chicago area. Through partnerships with state and local health agencies and experts, we offer culturally and linguistically tailored health seminars, group workshops, and dementia prevention initiatives specifically designed for Korean immigrants. Our range of activities further supports clients in effectively managing their physical and mental health.

Additionally, we annually administer free flu vaccines and COVID vaccines to both the Korean community and neighboring populations, reinforcing our commitment to promoting health and wellness across diverse communities.

Hanul’s Community Education Programs provides a variety of educational opportunities to help clients continuously learn and grow. This helps all members of the community learn across a range of topics and disciplines, helping individuals to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Through educational programs that enable adults from all backgrounds to participate, we are helping them improve their knowledge and skills to grow, and lead healthy and prosperous lives. We also support them to grow together and encourage each other to strengthen the solidarity of the community. This facilitates them to prosper as a united community.

Mindfulness Tuesday

Mindfulness Tuesday is a gathering where you can deepen your understanding of mental health and enhance social interactions through various activities and sharing. This group offers a supportive environment to help you care for your emotional and mental well-being. Engage in mindfulness exercises, learn stress management techniques, and connect with others who share a commitment to personal growth and mental health. Join us to cultivate a balanced and peaceful mind.

Book Club

Hanul’s Book Club is a community of book lovers who select a book each month to read and discuss. Members share their thoughts and opinions about the book, fostering engaging conversations and deeper understanding. Join us to connect with fellow readers and enjoy a rich literary experience.

Dementia Early Planning Workshop

The Dementia Early Planning Workshop, supported by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), convenes Korean American professionals from diverse sectors such as healthcare, social services, and law. Its aim is to foster a comprehensive understanding of cognitive impairment in older adults, including conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Participants collaborate to develop practical strategies for prevention, coping mechanisms, and long-term care planning.

Memory Cafe

The Memory Café offers engaging activities and informative lectures aimed at enhancing cognitive function and preventing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The program is divided into two parts: the first half features static activities such as professional lectures, calligraphy classes, and art therapy, while the second half offers dynamic activities like health stretching, slow breathing classes, and diet dance sessions. CogniAge; Cultivating Cognitive Wellness

Our community health program is tailored for individuals aged 65 and older, dedicated to enhancing both physical and mental well-being. Addressing the challenges of aging, including language and cognitive decline, our program provides valuable social interaction opportunities to combat social isolation. Participants engage in two-hour sessions twice a week, focusing on physical health activities like health dance, cerabands gymnastics, and origami, as well as mental and emotional health programs such as calligraphy, art therapy, and mindfulness sessions using picture books.

Hanul's free Adult English Education is funded through a grant from the Illinois Community College Board's (ICCB), which consists of an English curriculum and education designed for adult immigrants and refugees. The ultimate goal of the class is to help learners acquire reading, speaking, comprehension, and math skills. The end goal is to ultimately qualify for high school equivalence and transition to further educational employment & employment education.

Classes take place at Hanul's Chicago office on weekdays in the morning, and students must focus on their studies throughout the semester. Being punctual and consistent in attendance is essential for the best educational outcomes.

Volunteer English Tutoring

Operated with the support of the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) Library Adult Volunteer Literacy, the program is designed for adult learners to improve basic literacy skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. The program has volunteers as tutors and provides tailored education to learners through individual or small group learning sessions.

The main goal is to help adult learners live better lives by achieving their personal, professional, and social goals.

The key elements of English Tutoring are:

Volunteer Participation: Community volunteers help support and educate learners
Language Comprehension Skills: Focuses on improving basic language skills such as reading, writing, and speaking
Free Service: Free of charge and can participate without financial burden
Extensive Support: Uses a variety of educational materials and tools to help learners achieve their goals

Application for Learners

Technical Education provides education to acquire digital skills that are essential in modern society today, such as smartphones, social media, and basic computer skills. The classes allow learners of various ages and backgrounds to use digital devices efficiently and to connect and communicate with family, friends, and communities more easily through social media. Some programs may only be conducted in English.

Smartphones: Learn key functions of your smartphone, and how to use apps, and how to protect privacy.
Social Media: Learn to create an account on major social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, share and communicate with others.
Computer Basics: Learn basic operations such as file management, folder creation, basic program usage, how to create and edit documents using word processors, use web browsers, and online search skills.
