Federal and State Insurance Program

Hanul serves pregnant women, children, and their parents by linking them to Illinois’ healthcare programs; Moms & Babies, All Kids, and Family Care, which provide comprehensive and affordable healthcare coverage for the under or uninsured children and their parents.

Application and primary care doctor selection assistance are provided at both Chicago and Suburban Offices.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Hanul serves over 3,000 low-income families each year to help pay for their light and gas bills as an energy intake site for the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA). Eligible seniors and low-income families of all backgrounds can receive application assistance during the open enrollment period.

Promoting quality of life, Hanul social service provides a sense of autonomy, and self-sufficiency for our low-income and limited English-proficient Korean and other immigrant seniors and disabled, culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Hanul provides culturally and linguistically appropriate benefit application assistance and case management services to clients, assisting them at every step from resource gathering to the application process.

The programs are funded by Culturally and Linguistically Accessible Services (CLAS) through AgeOptions under the Older Americans Act Title III-B, Immigrant Family Resource Program (IFRP) through Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) under the IDHS Immigration Service Line Items, and Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) through the Illinois Department on Aging.

VIOLENT CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE (VCVA)

Elderly Crime Victim Assistance Program

Older adults are often targeted as victims of crime. In an effort to protect Korean older adults, Hanul Family Alliance is an effective advocate for limited-English-speaking (LEP) Korean victims, survivors, witnesses, and their families by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate, individualized victim assistance.

The program also provides education, including protective techniques and prevention methods. Older adults are referred to the appropriate legal avenue if they are victimized.

Focusing on elder abuse and the Attorney General’s Victim Assistance Program, we work to prevent:

Medicare Fraud
Elder Abuse
Hate Crimes
Assault
Financial Abuse

We assist with filing police reports and help find subsidized and/or senior housing. Additionally, we provide support in signing up for public benefits, determining eligibility, and applying for SNAP.

We strive to resolve issues and, if they involve financial abuse or power of attorney concerns, we refer cases to the HANA Center for litigation if desired. For cases specifically involving domestic abuse, we refer clients to KAN-WIN.
